Matlock Town FC Stand Appeal - Background
In
September 2002 Matlock Town Football Club embarked on an ambitious campaign to
raise money for a new 500 seater stand. The new stand will incorporate new
changing facilities, car parking, social club and hospitality facilities. The
stand which we plan to replace is situated down the Causeway Lane side
of the ground and dates back to the mid 1920s. Just over ten years ago this
stand was condemned as unsafe.
Initial
fundraising helped with essential repair work on part of the stand, enabling it
to be reopened. However, the remainder of the stand stayed closed to supporters
for another nine years until repair work enabled it to be reopened in March
2003. As a result of its age, the stand requires constant maintenance, as do the
leaky changing rooms which date from 1959 and the social club, which was opened
in 1976.
The work on this stand has however, deemed suitable to continue usage, and in recent years the thought process has been changed to developing the Dene Fields side of the ground.

Planning permission for a two level project was granted in 2009, but the project cost was too much, so a trimmed down plan was resubmitted and passed in 2010. A copy of the plan can be viewed here
